Q: What does a counsellor do?
A: A Counsellor is a mental health professional who can assist clients to compassionately work through the challenges and issues facing them.
Counsellors are trained to help provide support, guidance and coping strategies for clients to be better able to manage issues and problems regarding their thoughts, emotions and behaviours.
Counsellors may use a range of therapeutic techniques.
Q: Who might seek counselling?
A: Change and challenges are a part of life for everyone and may cause the client to experience a range of feelings such as; overwhelm, uncertainty, anxiety, sadness, depression, regret and grief.
Many people may seek counselling just once in their lives whilst others may seek support and guidance at different stages of their lives.
Many clients seek counselling to learn ways to better manage their emotions, their thoughts and to feel more confident and resilient in their ability to manage life.
Clients may seek counselling as they feel the need to share their story and to feel heard, in a confidential and safe space.
Some clients may seek counselling to help re-direct them, to assist in shifting their focus to the positive, or to help them manage pain.
In a counselling session clients can learn personalised strategies to better cope with the issues they are facing. These coping strategies can become part of their daily self-care routine and can be used moving forward.

Q: Can I access Medicare rebate for services?
A: Bernie’s services are not eligible for Medicare rebates.
Q: How long are sessions for?
A: The length of sessions depends on the needs of the client. Generally, sessions are 60 minutes in duration, though some clients choose 90 minutes.
Q: How many sessions are recommended?
A: The number of sessions depends on the client. Some may choose one 60-minute session but for many, I recommend 3-5 sessions as this method can offer the best benefit, as more can be discussed and worked through, progress checked and strategies adjusted if needed.
Q. Why choose an online session?
A. There are many reasons why clients prefer Online Sessions.
For some time-limited clients, online sessions offer more convenience. Some clients wish to remain in the comfort and privacy of their own home or office, or are unable to travel, have mobility issues, or live in more isolated areas.
